Lake michigan fish locator

5 posts in this topic

Just got back from fishing Lake Michigan and what a blast!!! One problem I had was my Lowrance X85 was not strong enough. Being I must upgrade would I be better getting the Humminbird with the SI or the Lowrance HD or is there something else I should look into? Thanks in advance.

Ozzy

I think mine is a 125 (black and white unit) and works just fine. I have fished depths of 300 plus feet so far with no issues

Was it that it couldn't read bottom or fish? You may need a new transducer. They can go bad. I have had several go bad. A weak transducer becomes more noticable in deeper water.

I have an X-85 as backup and it reads bottom quite well in 100-200 feet. No problem graphing or picking up fish off bottom. Most likely your transducer. I have had the same issue as you describe when the transducer gets weak.
