kotadust
Wondering if any one could help me out with the base settings or direct me to where I can find the base settings for a 1973 140 hp mercruiser for adjusting idle has a real rough idle right now and in the water once it is in gear it wont stay running at idle have to go to about 1/5 - 1/4 th throttle to keep it running (let me tell ya how much fun it is to try and get to the trailer and dock that way lol)
boatfixer
Idle mixture starting point should be about 1 1/4- 1 1/2 turns from seat, point dwell 28-34 degrees, timing 6 degrees, idle in gear about 600. Use AC spark plugs. Tune up kits are cheap, if you havnt already done that.I hope thats what you are looking for.
kotadust
biggest thing was the idle mix starting point point dwell unfortunatly I dont have the equipment to set that all i was able to do was set the gap with a feeler gauge and trying to find a timing light so I can get that done unfortunatly I dont know a whole lot of ppl up here yet lol and yes the info was very helpful thanks a million will help me to get moving in the right direction at least lol
boatfixer
Setting the point gap to .022 will be close enough for it to run good. Setting the dwell will make it just that much smoother, so dont worry too much about that.
