fish_4_fun
hey i was down by red rock tail water and the white bass were biting, but they were not as hot as they used to be. there were no forage swimming around, no shads and no shiners at all. there are lots of people throwing cast nets, but no shads to be found. i wonder whats going on. or is it just not the right time of year yet. JIvers
On the Iowa and Cedar Rivers the white bass fishing last fall and this spring was a little slow compared to years past, too. I can't speak for Red Rock, but around here the shad numbers seemed to be down last fall and spring--possibly because of last summer's flooding interfering with their spawn? Just a guess. Fewer shad may mean the white bass were/are more spread out looking for food. The white bass spawning run should be over for the year, so the bite probably won't get any better until fall.
