NASCAR approves double file restarts!!!

6 posts in this topic

I can't believe nobody has brought this up yet. All I can say is its about time!!!

June 5, 2009, 2:56 PM EDT DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) - In a midseason attempt to add some excitement to Cup racing, NASCAR has moved to double-file restarts beginning with this weekend's race at Pocono Raceway.

"We've heard the fans loud and clear," NASCAR chairman Brian France said Thursday. "Double-file restarts, shootout-style are coming to the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. This addition to the race format is good for competition and good for the fans."

The first- and second-place drivers will line up side-by-side as the green flag drops for each restart. The former restart procedure had lap-down cars on the inside, and the lead-lap cars on the outside for the restarts.

NASCAR recently used the double-file format for its non-points All-Star Race. The format will be adapted for the NASCAR Nationwide Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series in the future.

The race leader will have the option to restart on the inside or outside lane. The second-place driver would then restart next to the leader.

Drivers in odd number positions will restart on the inside lane, while drivers in even number spots restart on the outside. They'll get their first shot at trying out the new rule Sunday at the 500-mile race at Pocono.

All restarts will use the same format regardless of the number of laps remaining.

One of the ideas behind the move was to eliminate lapped cars getting in the way of the leaders on a restart.

"I'm excited about it," Cup points leader Tony Stewart said. "The good thing is that when they drop the green, you're going to be racing with the guys you're racing for position instead of trying to clear lapped cars."

I saw that, it should bring a little more excitement back into it. No more fighting lapped cars.

It should sure help things.

But I think it is just one of many things that need to happen.

I like the "competition" restarts a lot better. It never made sense to have the lap down cars on the inside especially on the tracks where the inside is the preferred line/groove!!

    •   I'll help you here, but you're going to have to call the nurse to wipe yourass.
    • So, how many other votes, in a state where vote fraud is a way of life even though the establishment denies it, got changed?  And did they undo the fix as soon as Moynihan walked out the door?     Sounds to me like, at the least, some folks ought to lose their job.  Maybe the feds should launch an investigation under the voting rights act or one of those things.     Ha Ha, like that is going to happen.
    • That's what I asked, whether the stories were different or just the headlines.   Bear stepped in on Jiggy's team and said they aren't going to bother to answer.    So, since you googled it, you must have a source and the answer to my question.   Well?
    • Chaws really hit it on the head, we are a very small market industry in regards to ice fishing. Even the walleye industry is small potatoes to advertisers compared to bass. In many cases if you're not 1 or 2 in your product line you're either a garage/hobby company or going broke. I get a kick looking at the intricate paint jobs on some of the tiny ice jigs that get sold for a couple dollars, no way can they justify the time.
    • Couple more pics.  Got all the plastic on and the floor insulated.
    • Rather ride my Harleys to but its Minnesota and if nothing else its going to get cold soon. Put my bikes into storage and the snowmobile is siting in their place and ready to go. I know its going to get cold I just hope we get some snow with it this year. Sure would like to get more than the usual 2-300 miles on the sled this year.
    • No it'sreal and it's different same day editions of the paper.  Easily googleable.   It's basically what happens when your boy's policies change a dozen times over the course a few hours.
    • Ok, so we can take from your post that you are solid media backer and supporter.     No, your antagonist posting is.
