Nate McVey
I helped a friend replace his bilge pump, fix a crack on the hull and replace some wiring on his boat. While pulling out the bilge pump, I noticed a lot of oil in the engine compartment. We checked the dipstick and it was bone dry. Opening up the oil compartments we found those dry as well. He called the mechanic that had worked on the motor and he said he had issues getting the plug back in. I assume it is located underneath the engine block, but what am I looking for when I reach under there? If the seal and threads are ok on the plug, can I just reinsert or should I have him get a new one?
boatfixer
If the threads are fine and it goes in fine, i dont see any problem. I just hope he didnt cross thread it.
Nate McVey
Thanks Bruce, that was my concern. I can't believe the guy didn't mention the "problem" when he picked up the boat. I'm going over tomorrow to give him a hand, so if I have any more issues, I'll be back
