Idle to fast?

3 posts in this topic

My 2000 3.0 L Mercruser idles a little fast. About 1150 rpm's. What should it idle at and how do you adjust that?

On I/O's I like to get them to idle at about 700-750 in gear. If you look at the end of the throttle cable near the carburator, you will see the idle adjustment screw. As you pull the throttle back to idle, it's the screw the idle stop lever stops against.

I would also make sure that the throttle cable is adjusted correctly - that it's returning the linkage to the idle stop and not hanging up somewhere.
