troutkingmaster
I may be buying a canoe from a private party. I am not familiar with the title/registration laws for watercraft and the DNR HSOforum was not all that helpful. Should I expect to get a title or registration card from the seller? Any idea what I will need to transfer it? Thanks!
Jim Uran
He should have a registration card, have the seller make a bill of sale describing the watercraft, price, and serial# on it. You will be fine with those two documents when you bring it in to get it registered in your name.
Jim Uran
I should have added a quick call to your local DMV would clear up any questions as to what they will require!!! Good luck!
MplsFisher
I bought an old canoe and paid cash. It had never been registered, and when I got it registered they did not require a title or a receipt. I just gave the make, model, serial number and length of the canoe. The state is lenient with non-motorized boat registrations.
