I would like to backack in the BWCA this summer but have only gone in on paddling trips. Where can I find trail maps for the trails? Is it a different permit than a paddling one? And is there a good book/HSOforum to get backpacking info from for the BWCA? thanks in advance!

Robert Beymer wrote a book called "Superior National Forest" it has a list of trials and maps. The kekekabic goes from gunflint over to ely and is a major trek from what I hear. Otherwise the superior hiking trail goes along the northshore and isle royal has some good backpacking as well. There are many topo maps availible from fisher and mackenzie. Here's a link to the superior national forest site hiking directory with maps and details. http://www.fs.fed.us/r9/forests/superior/recreation/hiking/
