  1. Bird habitat

We have never gone that far west to be in the high drought area. We have always found birds. In the past, poor shooting would be the reason for lower bag limits. This year we had very good shooting. Probably cause we saw lots of single birds, very few groups. We were out a week later than normal and I thought with the freeze, that we would find more groups. I did find lots of bulrushes mowed and tilled. I understand the WIA's are private land, but to see most CREP and some waterfowl production areas cut seems like a misuse of license money.
  2. Bird habitat

We used to split it up, but my son can only get away for 1 trip a year so we do the ten days so we can get both weekends in. We only do public. We take some pride in working hard for our birds. I don't care for groups or the "canned" approach. Hunting is supposed to be about hunting truly wild birds. Sorry that I can't agree that driving all around and finding cover all cut is part of the fun. We do travel a lot finding new spots, but it was almost impossible this year. That's two years in a row the drought is taking the blame for. How about lack of cover in many areas?
  3. Bird habitat

As a nonresident, we only hunt public lands and it gets quite expensive to spend a week out there. Last year only some of those spots were mowed. This year, most of the spots were mowed. We spent more time driving and looking for spots to hunt than actually hunting. I had well over 700 miles driving around so I know what I saw. Looks like my days in SD may be coming to an end. My money and enjoyment can be better served elsewhere.
  4. Bird habitat

It is my understanding that land owners are getting money from the hunting licenses for CREP and WIA's. I don't understand why they should be able to collect the money for enrolling the land, destroy the cover and then profit from cutting.
  5. I just spent 8 days pheasant hunting in SD last week. Almost every walk in area, CREP area, some waterfowl production areas were cut. Why is that?
  6. mjk, I just bought an elite-4. I'm not sure if you have the gps model or not. Mine has the gps with that. I plan to use mine on my boat and on my snowmobile or 4 wheeler in the the winter. I can save all my waypoints in summer and then have them in the winter.
  7. Harvin wants out

He smells like randy moss jr. to me. Not so much in our face, the public, but behind the scenes. He appears to be a headache that the vikes don't need. He seems to value his worth higher than anyone else does. I say good luck to him. Thje team did survive without him just fine.
  8. Reconditioned Vexilars

I have bought lots of things on hsolist. I look at if there is a money back guarentee for a length of time. I usually feel pretty good about the purchase then. If it says "no returns" I usually don't invest much. You always have to weigh the differences. It's much safer to pay more and be happy.
  9. How's your Ice fishing been this winter?

1 fish CAN make a difference...
  10. Superstar let go at KFAN

I'VE LISTENED TO KFAN FOR OVER 12 YEARS AND IT IS INTERESTING TO SEE OTHERS OPIONIONS ON THE PERSONALITIES. i SEEM TO BE ONE OF THE FEW WHO LIKE "SLUDGE". FROM THE BEGINING, HE WAS NOT IN AWE OF STAR AND WOULD RIDICULE HIM OF HIS LITTLE MISTAKES. I ALWAYS FOUND IT HUMOROUS. I AGREE THAT HE WAS THE MOST CREDIBLE PERSON ON THERE WITH HIS FOOTBALL TAKES. HIS STHICK WAS ALWAYS FUNNY ALSO AND THE SHOW SUCCEEDED BECAUSE OF IT. i FIND IT KINDA FUNNY THAT THEY MADE THIS DECISION AT THE END OF THE YEAR. SEEMS LIKE SOMEONE NEEDED TO SEE THAT THEY GOT THEIR BONUS. I BELIEVE THE SHOW IS NOW DOOMED AND WHAT WILL THAT DO FOR THE BIGSHOTS THEN!!!
  11. RIP Dark Star

why is it that some people are always skeptical when somebody says something nice about someone. I haven't heard a bad thing about Dark, he seemed to live the life he wanted. He seemed to have always given. Maybe that is what he really lived for...was to enjoy giving to his friends.
  12. I'm disappointed in what hockey has become...

I am disappointed too in what hockey has become. But I differ on some of your points. Hockey was and still is a puck control game. In the early years, players couldn't skate, shoot, or stickhandle as well as today. But all sports evolve because athletes become better as time goes on. In the early years, players had straight sticks, didn't wear helmets, and some goalies didn't even wear face masks. The game was simply not that physical. Now the game has become very physical. I think it has become too physical. I think players are taught systems and intimidating physical play rather than the true skills of the game. With that said, I would probably teach the same things myself if I had to because of the old saying "you can't fight city hall" I think the way the game is officiated becomes a large part of the problem. Everybody today seems to think that you have to blast into a player if he has the puck instead of taking it away from him. With the speed of the game as fast as it is and the size, strength and skill level of the players, you are going to have have the type of injuries that are occuring. Where does hockey go from here? I disagree with your opinion about the player turning his back. He is only trying to keep the puck from the player attacking. If he kept it out in front of him, the player could easily take it from him. He is only shielding it from him. Does the opposing player only have one thing on his mind and that is to blast into him? The player with the puck is not cowardly for that, he is only trying to maintain possession until he finds an open pass. I think some of the mentallity of what hockey is or was about is lost. We shouldn't have to resort to playing football on ice to enjoy the sport.....just my thoughts
