    Locking your fish house?

A few yrs ago I was on Lida fishing all alone. I had to do a #2 so out comes the garbage bag and 5 gallon bucket. As I'm doing my business comes a knock on the door. He identified himself and I say I'm going to the bathroom. A few mins latter I open the door. He said you went kidding were you. I said no I wasnt, he said thats a first for him to hear that one. The house was kind of stinky. I still smile when I think about it.

    Locking your fish house?

If the wife and I are feeling the need to, um, do something else besides fish, we would lock the door. I THINK our lock works...

    Locking your fish house?

From MN DNR First of all, we can’t walk into your house and search your freezers like most people think. We would need consent from the homeowner or have a search warrant (“homeowner”, that also means occupant, lessee, etc.). Where our search authority comes into play is while a person is hunting or fishing. The best way to explain this is to give you an example – if you are out on the ice fishing and I observe you fishing. I also observe you catching fish but never throwing them back into the water. When I talk to you on the ice, you say you don’t have any fish in possession. This is where our authority comes into play – I observed you catching fish and not throwing them back – I have the authority to check all containers that could potentially hide those fish (coolers, containers, and even vehicles). Our authority would stop at the ice house which is treated like your residence when it comes to search authority. We typically just get a search warrant if we feel the violation is significant.

Funny thing... I mentioned not seeing goldfinches. This morning I look out the window and there on the rail are... several goldfinches, mixed in with house finches. So I guess they are back from the cotton bowl.

Makes you wonder if all that energy needed for 1 seed is worth the effort . Although I have seen Chickadees take more than one seed at a time and fly away.

We had 18" by trappers landing. I think they're saying they have 20-22" now. I heard it's been slow for everyone, hopefully it picks back up!

Amount of lp used in subzero weather?

You can actually calculate propane consumption to some degree. each gallon of propane contains 91,500BTUs @60* There is about 6.8 gallons of propane in a 30 lb tank so 622,200BTUs per tank. If you have say a 30,000 btu heater so in a perfect world you would have 20.74 hours of run time (heater on 100%) Id say take 20% off of that figure because I doubt you'll actually get that much out of a tank in below zero. so say 16.5 hours of heater on 100%. Now your heater run time will more than likely be on 40-60% of the time so lets say 50% on time for this example would get you 33 hours of fishing time on a tank...

Had her out on the maiden voyage this last week. Spent 5 days out on Leech it was a great trip! With the temps dipping to -30 the insulation was put to the test and worked really well. I'm going to be out again this weekend in Walker Bay. If you see me stop by for a beer!

Goldfinches here all winter eating the oils. Color is all gone so they all look like females in the winter. Had about 10 redpolls here a couple weeks ago for a bit. Hit and miss with them mainly miss. Where do you get wildberry seeds? Spendy?

Do you ever lock the door of your house?

    Locking your fish house?

The last I heard, it is like your house. Same search deal. So you can lock it and they have to wait until you unlock it and can't barge in. But that may have changed more recently. I should have said, lock. Like if I were in a sleeper or a wheelhouse in the middle of the night, I would want to lock the door.

MINUS 7 IN the Puddle Humper, I just got home from the Lodge where I watched a win by the home hockey team and enjoyed rib night. Some lights on in shanty town as it actually got above zero today and some of the guys went out on the ice to drop a line and set up their houses the way they want. Shortly after dark their was a light show as Nytelyters Shanty exploded in color. He had a mis fire on his launch but he thought he fixed it tonight except all of his fireworks and roman candles went off at the same time. I am sure that everyone on this side of the lake saw it and I know a few of the young guys came out of their houses with fire extinguishers but don’t know that it is OK, Nytelyter is an expert at blowing things up. We spent time in the Lodge guessing who was coming through the front door. The same people who complained last week about it being so cold are the same ones complaining today and are still wearing the same clothes that they wore when it was twenty degrees warmer. Now the guys who came through the door wearing bibs and Arctic parkas with fur rimmed hoods and Mukluks on their feet with leather mitts with more fur on the top, these guys were dressed for the minus twenty below weather. The coats are maybe twenty years old and they had to dig deep in the back of the their closets for them but these are the same guys who have the right duck hunting clothes and even if they only wear them for a few weeks a year they are well worth the money spent when bought. Putting on layers is fine but a good Arctic parka that sits heavy on your shoulders feels pretty good when you are out on the ice and the wind is trying to lift you up. Of course a heated seat in the Tahoe is pretty nice to have to. After I dug up my winter coat out of the back of the front hall closet I found Buds old booties. I figured they would fit Duncan and he tried them on. He didn’t not try and pull them off as I am sure he could smell Bud on them and those two spent a lot of time together. I let Duncan outside and the booties worked. He ran around the yard in the cold now that his paws were no longer cold. He came to the door and I told him to go get me some "Hot Wood" he ran up to the wood pile and looking it over, he went under the tarp and dragged a piece of oak to the back door. I smiled and told him to get more. Back to the pile he went and after five pieces I told him he done good and get in the cabin. He went to the fireplace and I took off the booties and rubbed his feet some. I then put two of the oak pieces into the fire and the two of us sat on the couch and I tossed the blanket over us. Duncan snuggled in close and I think I was warmer then him so I let him use me to warm up here at Lake Iwanttobethere
