  2. You will get plenty of recipes for a brine or injection, or even an injectable brine which work good for turkey breasts. A common injection are the store bought ones you see in sporting goods stores in the cooking section. All kinds of flavors from Cajun, to Honey Butter, Garlic & Herbs, etc. Some even come with a free syringe. Some simple injections you can make are apple juice (plain or jazzed up), beer with seasonings, a doctored up chicken broth and one of my favorites a Lite Apple Brine. Since it's injected I like lower salt than you would use for an immersion brine. My Lite Apple Brine's ratio is 1 gram of canning salt mixed into 1 ounce of apple juice. If you buy an 8oz bottle of apple juice, just add 8 grams of canning salt, shake it and you are ready to inject. Years ago I asked Old Dave, an online friend, for help on an injection for a pastramied turkey breast recipe I was developing. He sent me a modified version of Shakes Injectable Brine, which is fancier than my Lite Apple Brine.... and guess what, I really like it too. Here is the recipe... and if you want to read more, I'll have the link to my write-up below. BTW, I was skeptical of the cloves, but I tried the first one following the recipe and it's good. My only variation is I'll use agave nectar instead of the honey sometimes. Old Dave's Poultry Injectable Brine, based off of "Shakes" Injectable Brine. 32oz clean water (non-chlorinated and not softened) 1/4 cup pickling salt 2 teaspoons of TenderQuick 1/3 cup clover honey 3-4 bay leaves 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves 1/2 teaspoon pickle spice Heat it up in a sauce pan but do not boil. For a 12-15 pound turkey, inject 2 oz in each leg, 2 oz in each thigh, and 4 oz in each side of the breast. 16 oz total per turkey. I like to do the injection at least 8-10 hours before the fire. My Pastramied Turkey Breast write-up can be found HERE EDIT, you smoke them until the internal is 165° to 170°. An injection will help keep them moist even at the 170° temp. I like a mix of cherry and hickory, but keep the amount gentle. Apple would be a safe bet for your first one and you can always use a stronger wood next time.

  4. First off, the comment I made which you replied to with a hypothesis never stated that there was proof they did anything wrong. I merely and accurately stated that there was a chance they did some of the same things and it appears that may be the case. You said plainly that VW could have chosen the Daimler tech but chose not to. In the end doing so may very well have found them in the same boat.
  5. Haula is probably going to see a lot of playing time so I don't doubt he will have some nice years, kind of like how Brodziak scored 20 playing as our first line center. I like Schroeder as first call up or emergency player but he just can't consistently bring it in the NHL, that is no crime because when he gets hot he is fun to watch but he just can't stay there.
  6. That's some good info, Thanks.
  7. I think they're shut down, too. Smells like no money and more welfare...
  8. Not sure if their still producing cardboard up at that plant anymore?
  9. Now Haula and Tuch will have career seasons next year. Haula is the odds on favorite to win the Ross trophy and Tuch should have a couple Norris' in the next 5 years. Sounds like Wild might not bring Schroeder back either. I really hope they are contenders for a strong center or a really nice goal scorer.
  10. Good point about the center support. I wandered out to my ground blind on one of the last days of archery season to find the roof caved in and two poles busted.
  11. MMmmm Cloquet.... Smells like money.
  12. I am a little concerned with it fading but it needs to be left up for the deer to get accustomed to it so no way around that. I assume the sun is the main culprit in fading so I'll do my best to protect against that. One spot I'm considering is tucked into some pines which create a lot of shade, brushing it in heavily should also help keep it out of direct sun as well. Good point about a center support to help with the snow. I'll make sure to add something.
  13. interesting? oh its raining here too!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. That's what this Cooper's Hawk was doing, right in the middle of the street. Has a nest in the top of the neighbors birch tree. Watched them all Spring with their young. Was pouring buckets here and this guy sat in the middle of the street for ten minutes flapping and spinning around. Think he was having a good time! First and third shots are while he was fanning wings. Camera didn't want to subject auto-focus on full zoom with the amount of rain coming down, but figgered I wanted to get the pics. Hawk was half a block away
  15. Ever been to Stevens Point or Wisconsin Rapids?
  16. Maybe an "Inter-continental" belt is on the line here.....
  17. Probably no worse then the paper sludge biwaste that was coming out of that plant a few years ago!
  18. Well it looks like we got out of expansion is pretty darn good shape. Haula + Tuch and we got a 3rd coming back to us, not bad at all. Tuch is no throw away prospect and could become a heck of a player some day but I feel like we still were able to keep our better prospects and center prospects which is big for us. Sounds like we still might move a D man to clear some cap space so maybe more fireworks to come.
  19. Thanks guys, appreciate the info!
  20. Only so many heartbeats, lol. Probably some study on hummingbirds or something and now the same rules apply to us and our consistent environment filled with healthy choices that are necessities for survival, just like a hummingbirds.... This was probably published by a group of medical providers that want to make you think it doesnt matter if you're lazy, fat, and dependent on "conditioned answers" to life's health and wellness questions and you will seek their "advice" when becoming ill.
  21. i've never done the plastic thing. but i've taken Reb's advice on planting grass, in particular filling in spots and its turned out great. so this is going to really hurt to say this, but Reb really knows what he's talking about when it comes to his lawn. i've also seen pictures.
  22. Right next to the river, no less. Isn't anyone from the EPA concerned about this?
  23. The "if you were watching the story" was referring to the actions of VW. Your link about mercedes was full of weasel words and little actual hard information. And from the link you posted... Seems like no evidence they did anything wrong has surfaced yet. Maybe, maybe not. So, what facts are you referring to? And are you disputing the stuff about BMW and VW as well? Oh, and from wikipedia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_emissions_scandal
  24. Repairs and fixes for 2.0-liter Volkswagen and Audi TDI models: There are three generations of the 2.0-liter turbo-diesel four-cylinder, and all will require different fixes (from simple software updates to complete, and potentially performance-crippling, hardware retrofits). As of January 6, 2017, Volkswagen announced a complete fix for 2015 TDI models with the third-generation engine. This will involve installing a second NOx sensor and a new or replacement diesel-oxidation catalyst. In March 2017, VW received approval to sell these cars, of which there are approximately 12,000 new and 67,000 used. On May 19, 2017, VW received approval to repair 2012–2014 Passat TDI models. A total of 84,391 cars are included, except those with manual transmissions; CARB said VW had not shown sufficient evidence that they will be made compliant. VW is awaiting approval to resell these vehicles as used cars. Buybacks and compensation for 3.0-liter Volkswagen and Audi TDI and Porsche diesel models: As of December 21, 2016, Volkswagen reached a second settlement with the roughly 78,000 owners and lessees of 3.0-liter diesel models. In late January 2017, Volkswagen announced a $1.2 billion program that differs substantially from the $10 billion program for 2.0-liter diesel models. Judge Breyer approved the final settlement amount on May 11, 2017. Currently, only owners of 2009–2012 Audi Q7 and Volkswagen Touareg models with the Generation 1 engine are eligible for buybacks between $24,755 to $57,157. This is because Volkswagen cannot repair them to be emissions compliant. Generation 1 lessees of 2012 vehicles can receive between $5001 and $6615 for terminating their leases early. Generation 1 owners who do not sell their cars back to Volkswagen can receive $7755 to $13,880. For complete details, see the court’s handy executive summary. For Generation 2 models between 2013–2016, Volkswagen will offer cash compensation ranging from $7039 to $16,114; if the recall isn’t made “timely available,” the automaker will buy them back for prices between $43,153 to $99,862 and extend any warranties that might expire until the recall is ready. Generation 2 lessees can receive between $5677 and $12,492 for terminating their leases early. If lessees decide to keep their cars and perform the fix, they each receive a flat $2000. In all cases with Generation 2 cars, owners and lessees can opt to receive half of the cash payments up front and the other half once the vehicle is repaired. Generation 2 owners and lessees are also eligible to receive up to $1500 each as part of a separate $327.5 million settlement with Bosch, the supplier of the emissions software. Details are available here. These prices have been set using NADA Used Car Guide Clean Retail values as of November 2015 and adjusted for options, mileage, and the region the vehicle was registered in as of that month. The 2016 diesel models will be repurchased at 12.9 percent above prices for equivalent 2015 models. Owners and lessees will also be reimbursed for state and local taxes. The registration deadline is December 31, 2019. Owners and lessees will get the same payment (adjusted for mileage) regardless of when they register. Repairs and fixes for 3.0-liter Volkswagen and Audi TDI and Porsche diesel models: There are two versions of the 3.0-liter turbo-diesel V-6 that require different modifications. The Generation 1 engines in the 2009–2012 Audi Q7 and Volkswagen Touareg cannot be made fully compliant with EPA regulations. Generation 2 engines in 2013–2016 models can be fixed under a formal recall that must be approved by the EPA and CARB no later than December 20, 2017, or else Volkswagen must pay owners an additional penalty. On those 58,000 models, Audi said on November 23, 2015, that it would update the software and “resubmit” its emissions applications after the EPA found undocumented “auxiliary emission control devices” that were allowing excessive levels of NOx.
  25. I would guess it is going to create more pollution rounding up, transporting, scrapping and reclaiming those cars than the excess they would have emitted in their lifespan vs the cars that replace them.
