Do you need a trailer license for a fish house on wheels?

I just bought a used one. When I asked the owner where the license sticker was he told me that the house did not need one. Let's keep this quiet just before the MN Legislature figures out they forgot to tax something.

I had to get the lifetime license for mine. It's the same one that goes on the tongue of the trailer just like my boat has. I guess they figure you could actually use it for a trailer also.

I just stopped at the co. lic. office friday asking the same question. The person told me as long as it is used for just a fish house all it needs is a fish house lic. and it can be transported down the road legally. As long as the lighting, legal width and length, ect.. are with in legal limits. I did ask about a trailer lic. as well, but was told I would need a fish house lic also if I was going to fish out of it. The trailer lic. is not good for that.

That is my understanding...if it is licensed as a fishhouse (current license), it can be transported without a separate trailer license (source: my brother, the county deputy). All the other regs applying to trailers apply, though.

JJ: I have had my wheeled fish house for about 10 years now and I was also told that if I post a "Fish House" license in the rear window, I can tow it anywhere year round and use it for camping, without any additional licences. I do have all of the required lights, turn signals, stop lights and reflectors. I guess if you were stopped, you will have to prove it's got all of the requirements to legally have it on the ice...
