Love those chunks!

I tripped over this one this morning in the monsoon. 1 pound 2 ounces with zero quartz. It is a bit ruffed up. I can only imagine what it looked like before it broke...probably almost twice as heavy.

I've been spending a lot of hours looking. Lots of times with not much to show for it. Maybe have to snoop around for some shrooms soon tho.

These fit in the pocket very nicely. Wet agates are easy to spot...

That is a cool little painter, kind of an arrow shape in the banding on the back side.

This is a pretty cool thread. Does anyone know the laws on how much rock can be removed from the North shore beaches? My wife wants some rocks to put around her garden and thought that we should go up to the North shore and pick up some. I said honey, I don't think it's an issue to pick up a few agates off the beach, but I don't think we can bring home a small truck load of rock from the North shore!! shocked Anyone know what the laws are. I told her that I think we can find a farmer with some field rock some where. wink

If you can fill a truck with agates, I'll be your best friend grin Stop in at a landscaping outfit or just go to a gravel pit. A few hundred pounds of stone isn't very expensive and a lot less work.

I can get you all the bulk stone you want...might even be some agates mixed in smile

Thanks but what I wanted to hear is there is a law of taking them off the beach and no one will let you have any. Then I can tell my wife No rocks Honey! Ha. grin

If its not against the law now, I suppose it will be. I think if your using a bucket (ok) if your using a bobcat (not ok).

I'm super ridiculously jealous of you guys that have access to gravel pits. I look at all of your posts and I'm just drooling with jealousy at your finds! I could look for agates for 24 hours straight if I had a pit to look in, but none of them will let me when I ask frown

If you're ever looking for company in your agate picking honey holes, please look me up! (hey, I can dream, right?)

Anyway, here are a few small but pretty little guys I found at a local park while playing a round of disc golf today. Figured I should at least contribute to the thread smile

Some nice agates I found...no lines on the outside whatsoever. Glad I cut into these!

Good tumbling material there! Spotting an agate without any obvious markings takes some skill.

Portlis, pm me...I'll give ya a couple tips.

Dmopz, those are beautiful. You make me want to cut into a few of the more boring guys I have. I've got a couple decent lumps that I've found in landscaping rock that are obviously agates but have zero lines showing.

If you don't mind my asking, what do you use to cut them?

I just use a 7" tile saw with a diamond blade. Cuts em decent, then to get the wet look I just put on a high gloss polyurethane or clear nail polish.

So I've been bitten by the agate bug bad, and I mostly blame this thread lol. laugh I've always liked them mind you, searching for them here and there, but I've really started going out of my way to actually make a day of looking for them recently.

Here are the spoils of a recent 4-5 hour bike ride around town searching through various landscaping rock. I found a few more than these, but these are the pretty ones. None of them are huge like Dark's monsters, but they have nice lines!

Grouping of them together.

One of my favorites. I love the symmetry.

Probably the best banding on an agate I've ever found.

A really fascinating agate. Looks nothing like an agate on the outside, but has this hollow almost geode on the inside surrounded by agate. This one makes me wonder just how many agates like this I've overlooked....
